93 points “Creamy lemon sherbet and buttered biscuit with a pinch of sweet spices on the nose. Rich brioche and hazelnuts on the palate with plenty of complexity and depth. Honeyed yellow fruits are seasoned with a pinch of earthiness. Long and profound with crushed almonds on the finish.” – Decanter

Move over Lanson and Johnnie Walker because there’s a stylish new ‘Black Label’ in town.

With each fresh release from Busi Jacobsohn we fall a little deeper in love with them. The sophisticated Blanc de Noirs is the third style to be released by this exciting talent and it’s already receiving huge critical acclaim with a medal from the WineGB Awards 2022 a glowing review from Spectator and that immense score from Decanter.

Busi Jacobsohn Blanc de Noirs 2018 was crafted using only black grapes (78% Pinot Noir and 22% Pinot Meunier) grown on the single-estate vineyard in Eridge East Sussex and was aged on the lees for a Vintage Champagne-rivalling 36 months. Although wonderfully fruity this is a little more savoury than their previous expressions. So expect apple pie crust almond croissant Abernethy biscuit toasted hazelnut spiced berry crumble pizza oven smoke and something slightly umami reminiscent of mushroom soy sauce. Those elements have quite a French quality but it’s shot through with a very English-feeling red apple acidity. What we admire most though is the electric energy it possesses which suggests it has a long life ahead of it and has you reaching for a second sip almost before you’ve had time to put the glass down after the first. As ever this progressive producer clearly marks on the back label that this wine is suitable for vegans.

Transcending the burgeoning English sparkling wine category Busi Jacobsohn is the epitome of European elegance. The brand was created by an Italian and Swedish couple – Susanna Busi and Douglas Jacobsohn – at Blackdon Farm on the beautiful High Weald just south of Tunbridge Wells. Here they use the traditional method made world-famous by Champagne and vines from Burgundy clones to create wines that are a celebration of Europe. Their very first wine was awarded 94 points by the Decanter World Wine Awards putting this new venture firmly on the fine wine map but also on a trajectory to become a world-beater.

Founded in 2015 Busi Jacobsohn is very much a family-run wine estate. Douglas Jacobsohn stepped down as chief executive of an insurance company working in London to follow a dream that he and his wife Susanna had of making their own wine. After extensive training at Plumpton College Douglas spends his days among the vines while Susanna takes care of the organisational side. Their sons Charles and Tom help with design marketing and the vineyards; and their friends and family all pitch in at harvest time following the classic Italian tradition of Vendemmia. We’re proud to be one of the first stockists of Busi Jacobsohn and cannot recommend it highly enough.
