Introducing the Symington family’s very first rosé wine from the Douro Valley.
Portugal is so hot right now. The value for money and pure drinking pleasure coming out of this corner of the Iberian Peninsula is off the charts. Combine this with organically grown grapes, vegan-friendly production, a Provence-like pink colour, and one of the world’s most respected winemaking families, and you have the bang-on-trend Altano Organic Douro Rosé.
The Symington family have been making wines in the Douro Valley – a UNESCO World Heritage Site of jaw-dropping beauty – since the 19th Century. They’re the world’s leading producer of premium Port, the biggest vineyard owner in the region and one of the first wineries to start making serious Douro DOC wines. As the producers of Graham’s, Dow’s, Cockburn’s, Warre’s and Quinta do Vesuvio, they are obviously most famous for their Ports, but the Altano wines they create are a revelation.
This is an organic blend of Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, and Tinto Cão – classic varieties normally associated with Port – from the Vilariça Valley. Pull this fresh and vibrant rosé out as soon as the sun peeps from behind the clouds. It buzzes with jasmine, lychee, rhubarb, gooseberry, strawberry sorbet, flint and green tea nuances. Simply sensational stuff.
