Taking its name from a small agricultural hamlet nestled in the picturesque hills near Siena, the Castello di Ama winery was founded in the 1970s by a group of families passionate about this magical place. Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti are now at the helm of this revered estate that produces some of the most elegant, sought-after and long-lived Chianti in the region.
Ama is their beautiful Chianti Classico, produced almost entirely from Sangiovese, but with a little splash of Merlot. It was fermented with wild yeasts to give you the fullest picture of this exceptional terroir, before being matured in old oak barriques. The result is voluptuous, harmonious and practically bursting with red fruit. But don’t just take our word for it, see what some of the world’s leading experts on Italian wine have to say…
93 points, “A fresh and composed red with blackcurrant and blueberry aromas with minerals and citrus underneath. It's medium-bodied with fine tannins and a racy, long finish.” – James Suckling
93 points, “Blue flower, sandalwood, cassis and spice shape the nose on this lovely red. All about finesse and youthful tension, the savoury, elegantly structured palate features juicy Morello cherry, coffee bean and star anise framed in taut, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced and focused.” – Wine Enthusiast
