97 points, “The 1975 La Mission Haut-Brion is a timeless wine. Still a saturated ruby-black in hue, it unfurls in the glass with a rich bouquet of dark fruits, cigar ash, camphor, loamy soil, truffles and smoke. Full-bodied and muscular, it's an immensely concentrated, highly extracted wine with a deep core of fruit underpinned by an imposing chassis of rich, chewy tannin that still asserts itself on the finish. The 1975 La Mission is one of the most powerful wines produced during the Woltner era at this château.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The tasting note above was written following a tasting in 2022, 47 years after the harvest, which demonstrates the immense longevity of this spectacular wine.
Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one Bordeaux’s greatest estates. At the time of writing, this iconic Left Bank property has been awarded 100-point scores by Robert Parker more than any other wine in the Médoc, equalling the number given to Pétrus.
This 1975 vintage was made when the estate was owned by the innovative Woltner family, who ran it between 1919 and 1983. The Dillon family bought this incredible Pessac-Léognan property from the Woltners, 48 years after purchasing its historic neighbour just across the road, Château Haut-Brion. What makes La Mission Haut-Brion – normally a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc – so special is its consistency. The rich, powerful and oaky reds produced here are amongst Bordeaux’s best in every vintage. They need at least 10 years before you should consider opening them. But luckily, that wait is over for this mature wine.
