96 points “Attractive red apple lemon curd spun sugar and honey notes on the nose expand into layers of richness on the palate. The balance between the fruit sugar and acidity is superb with a real depth and concentration to the apple flavours on the long finish.” – Decanter

Decanter Magazine highlighted this unassuming-looking half bottle in their article entitled: “Best sweet wines from around world: 30 bottles to seek out.” So dessert wine connoisseurs everywhere have been stocking up en masse.

Domaine des Baumard is one of the Loire’s finest producers. At the helm is the ever-innovative Florent Baumard. He was an early adopter of screwcaps trellises his vines in unusual ways (sometimes up to 3m apart) and rather than seeking consistency looks to highlight the individuality of each vintage. This makes his wines completely unique and always a highly memorable experience.

Carte d’Or is a vegan-friendly minimal-intervention Côteaux du Layon crafted without oak ageing. So what you pour into your glass is dazzling liquid gold that shimmers with honey pineapple mango apple sauce apricot lemon meringue pie and marmalade. Undeniably sweet and luscious but that tropical freshness and tangy acidity keeps everything in check and prevents it from becoming cloying. Consider pairing with rich pâté (rich and meaty or earthy mushroom) mature cheese spicy dishes (think Sichuan Thai or Caribbean) fruity desserts white chocolate frangipane or tarte aux pommes. And at this price we recommend squirreling away a few of these half bottles in the cellar.
