Previously only available in the U.S. and Mexico, we are delighted to be able to bring this to the UK. Aged for eighteen months in American white-oak barrels and then gently filtered through charcoal to remove the colour and bring out the crisp agave flavour, Don Julio 70 combines the clarity of a Blanco with the complexity and irresistible smoothness of an aged Tequila. Expect honey, spice, leather, butterscotch, chargrilled lemon, roasted herbs and lingering toasted oak notes of vanilla, desiccated coconut and almonds. The bonus of this spectacular spirit is that it won’t discolour any cocktails and it’s remarkably easy to drink with fuller-flavoured foods like Mexican cuisine. Consider sipping it alongside flavours from Veracruz, tacos, tostadas, pozole or Mancha Manteles – one of the seven famous moles of Oaxaca.
Don Julio’s founder Don Julio González-Frausto Estrada began distilling at the tender age of 17. Honing his craft for almost 40 years at his La Primavera distillery in the highlands of Jalisco, he broke the mould of this being considered a drink for farmers and now most historians and aficionados recognise his as the first ever luxury Tequila.
