Guigal’s Condrieu is always a joy. Matured in new oak it’s a rich and opulent affair. Intensely floral with honeyed apricot white peach grapefruit peel tangerine vanilla cream and gentle waft of smoke not to mention a luscious umami note. Mesmerisingly rich yet also dry and mineral. It tastes like bottled sunshine and we love to pair it with rich delicacies such as lobster truffles foie gras mature cheese drizzled with honey or decadent tagines.
E. Guigal is a simply legendary winery which has passed from founder Etienne to his son Marcel and now on to his grandson Philippe. According to Robert Parker it’s “a qualitative locomotive that has brought attention to the Rhône Valley raising the quality bar for the entire region.” And Parker has backed this up by awarding it more perfect 100-point scores than any other producer on the planet. Although famed for their Northern Rhône reds the whites are not to be missed either.
