99 points “I love the aromas of lavender sandalwood sliced apples and pears. Some gunpowder and slate undertones. Full-bodied yet formed and tight with minerality and brightness. Vivid acidity gives this energy and depth. Drinkable but will age beautifully.” – James Suckling
97 points “World-class Chardonnay made not far from the Pacific coast using fruit sourced from small plots grown on slate […]. The wine combines exuberance of fruit including white peaches and star fruit with hazelnuts praline dried fruits toast and sweet spices. On the palate it is dry beautifully balanced with a sophisticated creamy texture and underlying tension. The finish is persistent and includes well-judged oaky notes and wonderful savoury complexity.” – Decanter
Introducing one of Chile’s finest Chardonnays…
Las Pizarras is an innovative venture from Errázuriz exploring the terroir of Aconcagua Costa and the results are nothing short of spectacular. Applying their unparalleled knowledge of the local vineyards Errázuriz uncovered a cool-climate estate with slate (‘pizarras’ in Spanish) soils. The wines they produce there can rival the finest wines on the planet.
2018 was a cool and dry year allowing slow and steady ripening. The result is immense complexity and a stylishly refined Chardonnay. Expect exquisite notes of lemon sorbet marzipan white flowers roasted nuts lime zest buttered hot cross bun tropical fruit baked apple cream and beach pebbles. If this Chardonnay came from Burgundy or California the price would be astronomical.
Chilean wine is considered ‘New World’ by many. But when you learn that Don Maximiano Errázuriz Valdivieso founded Viña Errázuriz in 1870 it makes a bit of a nonsense of that outdated moniker. Today under the watchful eye of Eduardo Chadwick Claro Errázuriz is one of Chile’s most iconic and one of the world’s most famous wineries.
