It’s no secret that we love Framingham – they make our wonderful Harvey Nichols Marlborough Pinot Noir – but we’re not alone Master of Wine and leading New Zealand expert Bob Campbell is also a fan. He named this his Winery of the Year in 2018 and 2019 but also ranked this the 21st best Sauvignon Blanc of the 2018 vintage – high praise considering how many New Zealand produces – and awarded it 94 points.
Framingham’s F-Series is their experimental range so this was always going to be something a little bit special. Wild yeast fermented in acacia and oak barrels then left to mature on the lees for ten months; this is a far cry from the standard tropical New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Expect punchy apples and pears sweet marmalade notes velvety stone fruits spicy ginger beer and an earthy wholegrain toast quality. Serve this up with something spicy and prepare yourself to rethink Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc.
The Framingham label was launched in 1994 which makes them sound like relative newcomers. But they actually have some of the oldest vines in Marlborough New Zealand planted in 1981. Named after their ancestral home just outside Norwich in England Framingham make the wine they want to drink. And that passion is obvious in every aromatic food-friendly small-batch drop they create.
