Masseto is quite simply one of the world’s finest wines; the Super Tuscan answer to Bordeaux’s legendary Le Pin and Pétrus. Normally this 100% Merlot is sold to collectors on allocation making it notoriously hard to come by but we have secured a handful of bottles.
2010 was a relatively cool vintage producing a Masseto of resounding finesse elegance and potential longevity. It’s a wine of haunting beauty that’s impossible to put down or forget. Wonderful to drink now – revealing cherry liqueur chocolate fruit cake spices tobacco granary toast with blackberry and blackcurrant jam umami depth and something reminiscent of stirring stewing plums and exotic spices with a wooden spoon – but if you can hold off it will continue to improve for another decade and more. Consider pairing with flavours such as pan-fried kale porcini mushrooms polenta cassoulet black olives tomato-based stews game venison and Chinese red cooking.
