The oldest expression in GlenDronach’s core range is one for the Sherry heads out there…

Aged in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks for 21 long years but as Whisky Advocate (93 points) put it this is a dram “not to be rushed”. It's non-chill filtered natural coloured and named after the ‘parliament’ of rooks that have nested in the trees surrounding the distillery for almost 200 years.

The Parliament 21 Year Old reminded whisky expert Serge Valentin of Pauillac. It certainly has immense complexity displaying woodsmoke golden syrup musty cellars mossy forests jerky dates prunes plums melon and then all the puddings: treacle tart coffee and walnut cake black forest gateaux fig rolls the list goes on. What were you doing over two decades ago when this was distilled and filled into barrels?

GlenDronach’s history has been a tumultuous one. Burned to the ground a decade after it was founded bounced from hand to hand like a hot potato mothballed and resurrected it keeps coming back like the Terminator. However since being taken under the wing of The Benriach Distillery Company and more recently Brown-Forman things have settled down in the valley of Forgue Aberdeenshire. Whisky maker Rachel Barrie has produced a procession of exceptional richly sherried single malts with each release displaying even more character than the last. Rachel Barrie’s father is particularly partial to a GlenDronach and she was raised just down the road so this is one of the first distilleries she ever tasted and one that she is therefore incredibly passionate about.
