“Among the greatest British pink bubbly yet produced. Pure and profound.” – Olly Smith

Completely unique and utterly remarkable the Hambledon Dosage Zéro Première Cuvée Rosé is pure Pinot Meunier with no dosage aged for almost three years in the bottle and made using the saignée method (the unusual approach adopted by Laurent-Perrier in Champagne). Rich complex and wine-like this isn’t frivolous fizz for parties but something very serious and gastronomic. Bone-dry with flavours of red cherries wild strawberries rhubarb rosemary pine toasted hazelnuts smoke leather and tobacco; we recommend treating this as you might a red Burgundy and giving it a wine glass (rather than a flute) to open up in.

Driven by a goal to create the very best multi-vintage sparkling wine and make the local community in Hampshire proud Hambledon Vineyard is one of the English wine scene’s brightest stars. Although the comparison with Champagne is often overplayed when it comes to English Sparkling wine it’s very relevant here at Hambledon. Francophile Major General Sir Guy Salisbury-Jones suggested planting the vineyard back in 1951. Seeking advice from his friends at Pol Roger he realised his dream. Hambledon is now England’s oldest commercial vineyard. Their head winemaker Hervé Jestin was Chef de Cave at Champagne Duval Leroy for more than two decades and was recommended for the job at Hambledon by Hubert de Billy a director at Pol Roger. The chalky soils that run beneath their vineyards on the edge of the South Downs National Park are the same kind that the Côte des Blancs – the home of Champagne’s top Chardonnay sites – sits on. They operate the first gravity-fed winery in the country they ferment partly in French oak and they use Coquard Champagne presses – extremely expensive and labour-intensive pieces of kit that ensure the gentlest extraction to avoid any bitterness from the skins or pips. Watch out Champagne here comes Hambledon.
