Although hotly debated, as the story goes this legendary beverage was invented in 1919 when Count Camillo Negroni requested that a bartender in Florence switch the soda in his Americano for gin giving birth to the classic aperitivo. Since then, the Negroni has been enjoyed by the likes of Orson Welles; Ernest Hemingway named one of his dogs after it; James Bond sipped it when not in the mood for Martini; and the late great chef Anthony Bourdain described it as “a satanic hell broth” but apparently in a good way. And 100 years on, the Negroni is officially one of the hottest cocktails on the planet.
This year, our team of experts have decided to make a limited-edition version of our own Harvey Nichols Negroni to get us through the colder months. It’s still made using Portobello Road gin (created just a couple of miles from our flagship store in Knightsbridge) and then gently stirred with Italian red vermouth and Campari before being finished off with a sour cherry liqueur that gives a Christmas tartness to the cocktail.
Contains approximately seven servings. Serve ‘short’ in a rocks glass over plenty of ice cubes. Add a twist of orange peel or a slice of orange to garnish. Fuss-free cocktail perfection.
