95 points “Light bright yellow hue with a sweetly ripe open-knit lemony aroma recalling baked lemon pudding and lemon curd. The wine is full and open and generously proportioned with a dry finish and a hint of green nettles. Everything bodes well for a bright future. Long carry; clean finish. A very good and very promising young Riesling.” – Huon Hooke The Real Review
This distinctive cool-climate Riesling is one of those under-the-radar gems. It comes from Great Southern in the deep south of Western Australia an up-and-coming region – aided by climate change and the cooling influence of Antarctica – that is producing some of Australia’s most exciting wines. Howard Park made their first Riesling here back in 1986 so they are expert hands when it comes to this sensitive grape variety. Brimming with lively citrus crunchy pear white peach lemon curd quince jelly wet slate sea spray and talcum powder minerality this is Riesling at its brisk best. A sip of this seems to lift any dish you pair it with acting a little like a squeeze of fresh lime juice.
Howard Park is a member of Australia’s First Families of Wine a group of a dozen of the country’s finest most iconic and most historic wineries. Owned by the pioneering Burch family their wines – from the ever-popular Margaret River and the so-hot-right-now Great Southern – are adored by all Aussie wine connoisseurs.
