Jansz Tasmania Vintage Rosé 2017 is crafted from pure Pinot Noir some of the finest produced on the island. Wild fermented in French oak barrels for seven months and matured on the lees (the process that imparts the creamy yeasty and nutty notes that top-flight sparkling is famous for) for a price-defying two and a half years this vegan-friendly Tasmanian sparkling wine offers phenomenal value for money especially when compared to Champagne. Pop the cork to discover raspberry sorbet freshly baked brioche rose-flavoured Turkish delight nougat toasted almonds whipped cream and umami hints of truffle. 2017 was an exceptional vintage so this is best enjoyed as an aperitif giving it centre stage. However it could also be accompanied by tuna sashimi lobster Middle Eastern meze or for brunch with Deliciously Ella’s tahini tomatoes on toast.

Proudly Tasmanian Jansz Tasmania was established in 1986 and named in homage to the Dutch explorer Abel Janszoon Tasman who was the first European to lay eyes on the island in 1642. The region’s likeness to Champagne captured the imagination of Heemskerk Wines and the Champagne house Louis Roederer (producers of the iconic Cristal) who embarked on creating premium Australian sparkling wine there. Alongside the likes of House of Arras the pioneering Jansz sets the benchmark for Australian sparkling wine and the brand was instrumental in putting Tasmania on the wine world’s radar. Now owned by the Australian Hill-Smith family Jansz Tasmania – rated as a five-star winery by James Halliday’s Wine Companion – continue to make world-class wines using the traditional Méthode Champenoise.
