The eagerly anticipated new release in their ‘Celebrating Brilliance’ series sees Maestro DOBEL team up with Revolution of Forms a luxury brand that offers a carefully curated selection of homeware. Together they have pushed the boundaries of artistry and craftsmanship to create a limited-edition bar set entitled Encuentros.
Encuentros meaning ‘encounters’ in English was envisaged by Liliana Ovalle a London-based designer from Mexico who was awarded ‘Designer of the Year’ at the Mexico Design Fair in 2021. She also lectures on Industrial Design at Central Saint Martins in London and is a Senior Research Fellow at Northumbria University helping to spread the beauty of Mexican culture in the UK. Her bar set reimagines the art of cocktail making comprising a jigger cocktail mixing jug and stirrer. We have never encountered a more beautiful or thoughtful bar set than this.
The innovative jigger is made from Negro del Sur marble from Guerrero in Chiapas and was hand carved by an artisan family of eight brothers under the watchful eye of a Mexico City-based design company called And Jacob. The cocktail mixing jug was handblown by the expert glassblower Diego Vides Borrell. It’s smoky black gradients evoke the hot ovens used to bake the agave hearts. And finally the set is completed by the glass stirrer crowned with a silver tip. The design was inspired by the ‘coa’ a special hoe used for by a jimador to strip the leaves from the agave and reveal the heart or piña. These three works of art are slipped into a chic gift box alongside a fourth – a bottle of Maesto Dobel’s Diamante the bestselling ultra-premium Tequila in its homeland of Mexico.
Revolution of Forms was founded in 2020 by Raffaella Goffredi a former Senior Design Specialist at Christie’s. Enthused by a trip to Mexico where she met many of the country’s leading artisans and designers she decided to create a company that would protect both the environment and the traditional techniques deployed in Mexican crafts. She first encountered Liliana Ovalle’s work in New York. Sharing a mutual love for pushing the boundaries of traditional crafts Goffredi invited Ovalle to work on this exciting project.
Maestro DOBEL was created by Juan-Domingo Beckmann Legoretta whose family have been the leaders of José Cuervo for many many generations. So this man nicknamed Dobel knows his Tequila. Alongside Master Distillers Marco Anguiano and Luis Yerenas Dobel is blending single estate spirits made in small batches with a focus on refinement. Despite being a relatively young enterprise their super smooth Tequilas are revolutionising the premium Mexican spirit category. Their Diamante Tequila is one for the rule breakers rebels and nonconformists. It’s the world’s first multi-aged Tequila that’s crystal clear. Crafted from a blend of Extra Añejo Añejo and Reposado 100% blue agave Tequilas Diamante is then double filtered to remove the colour and make it exceptionally smooth. Diamante has the sparkling diamond clarity and the crispness of a Blanco combined with the creamy depth of a Reposado or Añejo. Sip it neat to revel in the European oak barrel influence or use it to add richness and butterscotch notes to the classic Tequila cocktails.
