Considering the challenges of the 2017 vintage this Opus One is remarkable. Rich and intense it’s a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon 8.5% Petit Verdot 5% Cabernet Franc 4.5% Merlot and 1% Malbec. It displays notes of cherry chocolate liqueurs raspberries crème de cassis plum rose petals lavender wildflowers dark chocolate black tea coffee cream and umami hints of Marmite black olive and liquorice. With a long complex finish this release is an extremely alluring and punchy wine. Although ready to drink now it’s sure to age gracefully over the next 20 years. Best paired with grilled waygu beef truffle tagliatelle or roast lamb.
