The 1990s saw Alexandre Gabriel of the Cognac house Maison Ferrand combing the Caribbean in search of the best rums of the region. Plantation is born an artisanal range of rums from the great terroirs of the tropics. Plantation XO is a blend of rums aged in Barbados for eight to ten years and further matured in Cognac for two to ten years. This sophisticated blend is finished in many different type of casks ranging from new white oak to bourbon casks as well as Cognac casks each with different levels of toasting. The ethereal and floral nose evolves quickly into notes of vanilla cocoa and milk chocolate. On the palate the rum is gently sweet with notes of cinnamon spice cake and sugar cookies with a long persistent finish. This is an incredibly complex sipping rum.
