Freshly charred and toasted, the custom made Chinkapin, or Quercus Muehlenbergii, American White Oak casks that are used to house Raasay’s Single Malt Scotch Whisky are a type of oak native to Central and Eastern North America.
The fresh charring of the cask brings a rich colour and flavour early on in the maturation process and the high toast caramelises the natural sugars in the wood. Expect sweet toffee and butterscotch on the nose; with vibrant dark fruit flavours and deep, rich colours at a young age.
The Isle of Raasay can be found to the east of the Isle of Skye and its modern distillery is impressing the experts. The award-winning author Dave Broom gushed “This for me is really advanced whisky making and it’s a completely new way of thinking about Single Malt in Scotland.” So don’t miss the innovative outturn from this compelling producer.
