Invented in 1889 by Fernand Moureaux Suze is made by macerating wild gentian roots for over a year then double distilling it with carefully selected herbs and botanicals.

Pleasantly bitter Suze Gentian Liqueur has a touch of sweetness and notes of vanilla turmeric pine needles eucalyptus pomelo thyme honey juniper angelica and orange zest. Where it gets its name remains a mystery – was it named after Fernand’s stepsister Suzanne Jaspart or a river in Switzerland around which he harvested his raw materials? But the real mystery is why your drinks cabinet doesn’t already contain a bottle?

Wonderfully versatile it can be sipped neat over ice or with soda and a slice of orange. This liqueur adds a depth to cocktails that is often compared by mixologists to seasoning food with salt and pepper. Try a teaspoon to season your favourite martini a Southside an Armagnac sour or a Sidecar.
