Le Serre Nuove Dell’Ornellaia is the prestigious second wine from the esteemed Ornellaia estate, located in the Bolgheri region of Tuscany in Italy. Introduced in 1997, Le Serre Nuove is crafted with the same care and attention as the flagship Ornellaia wine but is made from the estate’s younger vines and a different blend composition, providing a more accessible and earlier-drinking option.
Le Serre Nuove Collezione Trio is a collection of wines from 2014, 2015 and 2016 vintages and highlights the balanced and approachable style with the harmonious blend of fruit, structure and complexity. With its deep ruby red colour, the wines exhibit a rich bouquet of ripe red and black fruit aromas complemented by notes of spice, herbs, chocolate and tobacco. The palate is full bodied with smooth texture, good tannins and balanced acidity, offering flavours that mirror the aromas with additional nuances of vanilla and oak from ageing in French oak barrels.
Estate director Axel Heinz comments that the 2014 vintage is “fruity, refreshing and crunchy, with lightly spiced notes. Fine and especially smooth tannins. The wine has a lively and clean finish.”
The 2015 vintage was marked by a hot and dry summer, producing a rich and opulent wine with intense fruity flavours, velvety tannins and a robust structure. Axel Heinz notes that the “2015 combines enjoyment, body and maturity in a balanced way. The colour is intense and lightly spiced and toasted notes emerge on the nose. Deeply harmonious on the palate, with a long, silky finish, with delicate balsamic notes.”
Lastly, the 2016 vintage benefitted from ideal growing conditions in Bolgheri and Axel Heinz remarks that “the wine is intensely coloured and displays ripe red fruit and spice aromas. Plush tannins resonate on the palate. The vintage combines immediate enjoyment and an extraordinary ageing ability.”
