Suntory’s legendary Hibiki 17 Year Old is almost impossible to come by. Demand went through the roof amid news reports that Suntory’s aged whisky stocks have run dry and that the premium Hibiki 17 Year Old – famously featured in Lost in Translation – would be discontinued in certain markets from 2019. But never fear Harvey Nichols has managed to secure a few bottles. So paraphrasing Bill Murray’s character in the aforementioned film “for relaxing times make it Suntory time” while you still can.

Having won almost every single prize at every single whisky competition this is one the greatest blended whiskies on the planet. In its 24 faceted decanter bottle (reflecting the seasons of the old Japanese lunar calendar) Hibiki – which means resonance or harmony – 17 Year Old is the graceful epitome of Japanese artistry.

Distinctly Japanese in character this exquisite expression is made with aged malt and grain whiskies from Suntory's three distilleries (Yamazaki Hakushu and Chita) and aged in a range of oak types. Awarded a Gold ‘Editor's Choice’ award from Whisky Magazine the 17 Year Old has more facets than its bottle. Black cherry beeswax apricots soaked in Sauternes lemon zest pine logs woody spices smoky coal fireplaces Polish plums in chocolate honeycomb vanilla Ribena praline raisins soaked in Sherry the list goes on and on. Spicy and sophisticated on the nose in the mouth this whisky is poised and elegant with an impeccable balance and understated yet compelling complexity. A fantastic Japanese blended whisky as well as tasting exceptional and being super rare the bottle itself is a thing of beauty.
