Matured for almost two decades in a combination of American and European oak that has been seasoned with Sherry the resulting whisky Macallan at its finest; aromatic amber and abiding with caramelised ginger Christmas cake fruit mulled wine spices dark Jamaican gingerbread sticky toffee pudding crème Brûlée and orange zest. Whisky Maker Kirsteen Campbell considers oak the “single greatest contributor” to the Macallan style and she’s spot on because the extra years have given this an almost unfathomable depth.
“Macallan is the daddy as far as legendary whiskies go.” So says whisky expert Ian Buxton. This Speyside behemoth enjoys huge global demand perfectly illustrated by a 30-year-old cask breaking auction records when it sold for $375 000 (US) in Hong Kong. Deservedly so it remains the aficionado’s choice when it comes to Scotch.
