To mark the 60th anniversary of everyone’s favourite secret agent, The Macallan created a Six Decades of Bond series. Each of the six whiskies has its own special packaging reflecting a specific decade and the films released during those intervening years.
Decade IV saw the arrival of Pierce Brosnan and a significant ramping up of the complexity of the franchise’s movie production. The packaging design that marks the fourth decade of the James Bond films features a pre-title action sequence from 1995’s GoldenEye and the concept for a stealth ship used in 1997’s Tomorrow Never Dies.
The whisky itself was created by Kirsteen Campbell, Master Whisky Maker at The Macallan. She wanted to encapsulate James Bond’s character in Scotch, so expect a seriously smooth force of nature with charm and Scottish heritage. The nose opens with vibrant lemon sherbet, lime, vanilla, toasted coconut, dried fig and juicy raisin. The palate delivers more of that lemon sherbet, accompanied by orange zest, subtle oak, chocolate-dipped gingerbread, apple pie, Medjool date and a drizzle of honey. Fans will remember from Skyfall and Spectre that James Bond is rather partial to a glass of Macallan, so we think he would approve of this dramatic dram.
