Boasting a rich history dating back to 1824 Macallan is one of Scotland’s most renowned and respected whisky producers. Located in the illustrious Speyside region Macallan has built up a cult reputation for its single malt releases; particularly rare expressions can sell for thousands of pounds and demand and prices are constantly increasing. Macallan Rare Cask is the distilleries newest addition to the 1824 range and represents a non-age statement release which is composed of only the finest Macallan barrels.16 casks in total are used - predominantly first fill American and Spanish oak of various cask size – butts hogsheads and puncheons - made by multiple cask manufacturers and seasoned by multiple sherry bodegas to the exact specifications of Macallan. Indeed some casks used in the creation of Rare Cask will never be used again as they are from cooperages and bodegas that no longer exist. The resulting whisky is mellow soft indulgent and rich in style with soft notes of opulent vanilla and raisin pique on the nose giving way to a sweet ensemble of apple lemon and orange. The palate is weighty and oaky with flavours of vanilla and chocolate offset by a light citrus zest. Pronounced and persistent on the finish this impressive whisky is a fabulous addition to The Macallan’s star-studded portfolio.
