Gently sweet unpeated (making it a fine choice for the environmentally conscious whisky drinker) and floral Tobermory 12 Year Old was first launched in 2019 after two years of remodelling the distillery. Matured in American oak (mainly ex-Bourbon with a few virgin casks) this highly underrated Scotch bristles with crunchy pear toffee apple peach yoghurt topped with granola cinnamon buns vanilla nut oil dates candied orange peel and a pinch of sea salt hinting at its setting near the harbour on the Isle of Mull. Its balance salinity and freshness make it our go-to Scotch to sip alongside food.
Located at the south end of the colourful row of houses along Main Street in the picturesque village of Tobermory this Hebridean distillery was founded in 1798 and is famed for making vital components for the ever-popular Black Bottle. However its own Single Malt and its peated compadre Ledaig are having a renaissance with quality through the roof at present.
