La Grande Dame is Veuve Clicquot’s homage to Madame Clicquot. And as you would expect for a Champagne emerging from the LVMH stable it’s ravishingly stylish. Especially when it comes in a limited-edition box and bottle designed by the iconic Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. The wine inside is as joyful colourful and expressive as its packaging. The grapes come from Grand Cru sites (90% Pinot Noir from Ambonnay Aÿ Bouzy Verzenay and Verzy and 10% Chardonnay from Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger) and it was aged for seven years on the lees. Boasting orchard blossom jasmine and honeysuckle aromas followed by flavours of apple pear peach almond biscotti frangipane honey-roasted hazelnuts dried apricot chalk and vanilla cream it’s a thing of timeless beauty. We’re really quite dotty about it.

In 1810 this was renamed Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin after the young widow Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin inherited the estate.
