A premium gin from one of the world’s most famous wine regions…
Nestled in the hills of Piemonte Distilleria Santa Vittoria was opened in 2018. And Villa Ascenti Rosa is only their second gin. Packed with provenance it was distilled on a refurbished Frilli copper pot still from the 1970s by Master Distiller Lorenzo Rosso. Lorenzo trained as a winemaker so in creating this pink gin he used Brachetto grapes (a red variety used to make the strawberry-scented lightly sparkling and highly underrated Brachetto d’Acqui) alongside local peaches apricots and hazelnuts and real Tuscan juniper. The result is a summery delight.
When you pour Villa Ascenti Rosa you’ll discover a vibrant and fruity gin with a touch of sweetness from the wine grapes. But what we love most about it is its care-free and summery character combined with that wonderfully herby juniper. Apricot peach red berry sorbet crisp grape elderflower and pepper notes all combine to create a gin that’s ideal for summer cocktails. For a simpler serve top with tonic water and garnish with a slice of lemon and a sprig of thyme. Alternatively combine it with Dr. Loosen Summer Riesling Edition Vermouth to create a sun-kissed Martini. But we’re off to experiment with creating a Piedmont-style Negroni. Ciao.
